Christmas Greeting Grand Knight Marcel Lemen

Brothers of Council 12067,
The first four months of this fraternal year have been a whirlwind of activity and I thank you for your hard work and support. Specifically, I’d like to thank Bro. Valens Almeida, our Deputy Grand Knight and Program Director, and Bro. Simon Mendes, our Chancellor, Bingo Coordinator and Newsletter Editor for their hard work and dedication (especially since they are not eligible for the Knight of the Month award). I hope that you have enjoyed the first four months as much as I have. I am proud to be associated with such a strong and vibrant council. I hope that you are looking forward to 2006 with as much anticipation as I am. The best is yet to come.
On behalf of my wife, Charlene and daughter, Grace, I would like to wish you and your family a joyous and holy Christmas. May God bless you for your involvement in the Knights of Columbus and His Church, which we all serve.
With best wishes for a happy and successful New Year,
Bro. Marcel Lemmen,
Grand Knight

A big thank you from the Squires!

I would be grateful if you could circulate this to all brother Knights... Thanks.
Dear Worthy Grand Knight Marcel,
On behalf of the Squires Circle Officers # 4681, Counsellors Andrew Krajewski, Luis Gomes, Albert Green and the undersigned, I would like to express my grateful thanks to the KOC Council # 12067, Brother Knights and their families who participated by way of donating baked good, purchase of baked goods, Brother knights assisting the Squires over the two days by supervision and by allowing their sons to participate actively during the bake sale period. I must also mention here this year's success could not have been possible, without the active support of the parishioners and their kind donation. As a consequence, the squires were able to increase sales by over 50% and netprofit exceeded by over 65% compared to the previous year. As indicated in our previous communications, the squires will be donating a portion of the proceeds towards the following:
  • Vincent de Paul Society
  • Seminarian
  • St. Francis Xavier Church

In closing, I wish to thank all of you from the bottom of my heart for your kind generosity and support towards the squires circle # 4681.

NYED Pledge

Hello Brothers,

Hope all is well at your end. We are in the process of launching our New Year's Eve Dance (NYED) campaign and are looking for sponsors. Would you please pass on the attached information to anyone you know that may be interested in donating a prize for our New Year's Eve Gala Dance event, or advertising in our program?

This year we are planning to print a program that will be given out to each patron at our gala event. Our target is to have 400 people in attendance that evening with proceeds from our event earmarked for cancer research.

I have pasted a copy of our advertising flyer below and attached a copy of our NYED to be held at the International Banquet Hall. We would appreciate any patronage from your family and friends at our gala event.

Please let me know if you would entertain either a prize donation, or advertisement in our NYED program. Feel free to call me at (905) 507-8773 or email me if you have anyone interested in dance tickets.

Thanks for your time and please do not feel obligated.

Chaplain Appreciation Night

An Appreciation Night for our Chaplain, Msgr. T. D'Souza was held at the Mad Hatters on Friday Oct 21, 2005. Our GK Bro. Marcel Lemmen is seen presenting a gift to our Chaplain during the function. A lively discussion around the table covered topics ranging from Internet security to inactive Knights. Our situation can be summed up by three "P's"
  1. 'P'athetic - present situation.
  2. 'P'rolific - next step.
  3. 'P'ossible - make the impossible, possible.

Below is an extract from KOC Supreme website regarding the Duties of a Sponsor. This being our membership drive month please take time to reflect on your responsibilites as a sponsor. Bro. George Lim (Our Membership Director) is appealing for all Knights to help him by your presence at all the Masses this weekend to get the message out to potential new members.

Duties of a Proposer

Proposing a new member is a commendable achievement and one to be proud of. However, as a proposer, turning over a completed Membership Document (#100) is not the end of the job. You must also take the responsibility to see that your recruit becomes fully accepted by his fellow council members and stays involved in council activities. There are several steps you can take to ensure this.

  • Explain to him that the council's Admission Committee will examine his qualifications for membership and accompany him to the Admission Committee meeting. Introduce him to the members present.
  • After he has been accepted, escort him to his First Degree and remain with him throughout the event. Following the exemplification, introduce him to his fellow council members.
  • Take the newly initiated member and his family "under your wing". See that he learns council procedures, such as meeting times, committee assignments, etc. Introduce him and his family at council events. Encourage him to involve his family in council-sponsored activities.
  • Accompany your recruit to his Second Degree and Third Degree exemplifications and stay with him throughout the day.
  • Contact him before each council meeting and bring him to the meeting if necessary. If the new member becomes inactivate for some reason, try to find out why. Call and ask to visit with him. Explain your concern about his absence and offer support or assistance.
  • Encourage him to earn "Shining Armor" status within the council.

If the Knight becomes inactive, his proposer should work with the retention committee to find out the reasons for his lapsed interest and try to converse his membership.

Knight for Hope

4th of November at Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre.

Credit Valley Council 8661 of the Knights of Columbus is organizing a major fundraiser for the Carlo Fidani Peel Regional Cancer Centre at the Credit Valley Hospital.
A Knight for Hope musical extravaganza will be held at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga on Friday, November 4, 2005. The headline act for the evening is Michael Burgess, a renowned Canadian tenor who has starred in major musicals including Les Mis. Also featured are entertainers Debi Sander Walker and Michael Ciufo. You may recall that Michael Ciufo entertained us at our first Clergy Appreciation Night and it is great to see how far he has come in the intervening years.

Tickets are $50 per person and may be purchased through our council or over the internet from the Living Arts Centre Box Office.

October is our Membership Drive Month

To assist in our membership drive, we have adopted the theme “add one more in 30 days”. I ask each and every one of you, be focused and bring one new member – a relative, a friend or even someone sitting beside you in the Church. We need to share this fraternal and spiritual fellowship with those who are yet to become knights – it is our duty to get them involved and bring them to the next level.

Let us take a good look around and bring in one new member to our Council in the next 30 days!

George Lim
Membership Director
