Amazing Night at Carmel Heights December 10, 2007 >>click here for enlarged slide show

On December 10th 2007, the Knights of Columbus went Carol singing at Carmel Heights. This event was a beautiful experience with the presence of the Squires and the youth choir conducted by Bro.William. The youth brought their vibrance, the choir with their enchanting voice and above all the residents at Carmel Heights with the season’s spirit and love.
The solo singing performances by Simon Jude, Rochelle Pires , Alvin and JR were one of the outstanding features of the evening. The Knights conducted the game ‘Name that tune’. In moments after the tune was played by Simeon Remedios, the residents of Carmel Heights identified the song and enjoyed singing it. This game took them back to memory lane and their enthusiasm sparkled each eye gathered there.
Sincere thanks to the Grand Knight for bringing the beautifully decorated cake. It was an evening that marked the true meaning of Christmas of sharing love, joy, peace and happiness. The residents of Carmel Heights were thrilled and overwhelmed. They expressed their happiness to the youth and the Knights by talking to them, singing and some of the residents gave a mini tour of their seniors’ home to the youth. The sisters of Carmel heights expressed their gratitude and happiness in conducting such an event.
Indeed it was a memorable experience!!!!

LIGHT UP FOR CHRIST

Brother Knights and their families of the St. Francis Xavier Council # 12067, braved the freezing temperatures (- 6 'C and wind) to get into the spirit of Christmas at our very first LIGHT UP FOR CHRIST event on the 4th of December, 2007 at 7.45 pm. It was really very overwhelming to see such a good turnout. Due to the renovations of the church we were a little bit inconvenienced, but at the end of it all, it was a fantastic evening.
Yes we did have a makeshift crib and temporarily lighting, but the show went on.
The evening started with a prayer, which reminded us that the most important notion for this season is to keep Christ in Christmas as Jesus is the reason for this season. We then went on to sing Christmas carols that were apt for the time of the night and the season. There was hot chocolate, tea and timbits to warm up the revelers in the freezing cold.
Kudos to our musicians – Victor, Luis and William, with frozen fingers the music was still the best. Thanks to Mrs. Mascarenhas for offering to print the carols.
Thanks to all of you who helped make this event a very successful one.
Please look out for the sign that will be posted on the church lawns, sponsored by our council – reminding passers by to, KEEP CHRIST IN CHRISTMAS.

A nice reflection for the season
Lord,
What shall I offer you on your birthday in return for your infinite love? I have neither gold nor silver, neither myrrh nor frankincense. My house is without a roof. I have no room for you; not even a manger. My soul is even darker than the clouds of my passion. My eyes are too dim to look beyond the horizon of myself. Help me behold your bright star; "For in thy light we shall see light." Lord, You have been knocking on my door for all these years, but I never dared let you in because my garment is not white as snow. Forgive me if I do not invite you to my table, for my table is full of everything you despise. I have denied you more than Peter. I have doubted you more than Thomas. I have betrayed you more than Judas. My hands are empty. My lips are not clean to sing your praise. And my heart is wrinkled with sorrow like a withered leaf under autumn's wind. Lord, the only thing I can offer you on your birthday is myself. Drown me in the ocean of your love. Feed me with your heavenly bread, for the bread of this world will never satisfy my hunger. Quench my thirst with your divine fountain, for the water of this earth will never satisfy my thirst. Give me your eyes to see what you see, your ears to hear what you hear and your heart to love what you love. Take me with you to Mount Tabor and let me bathe in your eternal light. Lord, "Create a clean heart in me. Cast me not away from Thy face. Restore unto me the joy of Thy salvation, and strengthen me with a perfect spirit." Teach me how to pray in simple words, for only through prayers I may overcome my loneliness.
Help me to care for the needy, the oppressed, the orphans, the sinners and the despised whom you love.
As I kneel before your manger with love and humility I beseech you to listen to my prayers. Amen.
May you all have a Holy and Blessed Christmas.
Bro. Hilary Dsouza
Church Director.

CARMEL HEIGHTS BINGO

Once again, The Carmel Heights Bingo was conducted last month on, Wednesday, the 29th of November, 2007. Some of the residents there, made their way to the hall, carefully maneuvering their walkers and wheelchairs through the passage ways and doors of the home. They really seemed to have a lot of fun playing the game in all their modesty. There were a couple of blind ladies who enjoyed the game too, specially when their HELPER shouted “Bingo”. And Yes - these Helpers were none other than a few Knights from our Council and a few Squires. Thank you to all these SPECIAL HELPERS. After the game Bro. Savio Pereira (Squires Chief Counsellor) assisted the Chief Squire in introducing the Squires and their activities. As the seniors sipped their tea, Brother Luis Gomes (Squires Counsellor) played the guitar while all the rest joined in singing a few songs and carols. This was really appreciated by the seniors. Sister Veronica, then invited the Knights and Squires to a tour of the chapel, which is a very beautiful place of worship, kept clean and tidy and has a very peacefull setting. All in all it was a wonderful experience. All Bro. Knights are encouraged to try and make it to one of these bingo’s that is held on the last Wednesday of every month. You will definitely come back with a feeling of great satisfaction that your evening was well spent.

10th Anniversary Dinner & Dance - November 3rd, 2007

Dear Worthy Brothers,

St. Francis Xavier Council-12067 will be celebrating our 10th Anniversary on November 3rd, 2007 at the Novotel Hotel, located at Burnhamthrope and Hurontario.

Our goal is to sell out form participation within our Council and not have to contact other councils. In order to host this event in style and attain a special venue like the Novotel Hotel, we are committed to selling 200 tickets (20 tables with 10 per table). Since this will be a major milestone for our Council, it would be a great joy for us to fill the hall with Knights from our Council.

Therefore, the committee would humbly ask that each one of you join us in celebrating our Council's accomplishments and achievements over the past 10 years. Let's consider this an opportunity to rejuvenate our enthusiasm and passion for wanting to make a difference.

In the next two or three weeks, the organizing committee will be contacting each one of you to confirm your attendance.

Please make every effort to support this once in a lifetime event.

Fraternally,

Valens Almeida, GK

Our Warden, Bro. Peter Scullion was badly injured in a traffic accident March 14, 2007 and was recovering at the Trillium Hospital.
As of this morning March 19, 2007, Bro. Peter has informed me he is on the move again. He is being moved to 150 Sherway Dr. Trillium Health Center. He does not have a phone contact yet.

He sounded very cheerful in spite of the injury he has endured. However, he is very upset with the Paramedics who cut up his favorite parka into pieces. The picture shows Bro. Peter with his favorite blue parka on the chair behind him. He was assisting at our last year's fertilizer sale. I strongly feel the need we should provide him with a similar replacement parka. I am making a pledge of $10 towards this small gift fund for Bro. Peter. I urge all Brothers who would like to make a small contribution to email: kofc12067@gmail.com your intent to make a pledge.

St. Francis Xavier Circle 4681 are Champs! >>View album here

Worthy Officers and Brothers,
I am very pleased and proud to pen these few lines on behalf of your sponsored circle to inform you that the squires came back home to Mississauga with two trophies-winners of the Soccer and Dodge Ball tournament respectively.
The tournament was organised by the St. Patrick’s Circle 2041, Brampton with six circles from Brampton, Bolton, Pickering, Guelph and your own circle participating in this first annual event. Your sponsored circle put up two teams i.e. Francis Xavier A & B.
Our circle’s A & B teams qualified for the finals of the Dodge Ball tournament, with the A tram beating the B team by 2-1. In soccer our B team lost the semi final to St. Patrick’s Circle, who were eventually beaten by the St. Francis Xavier A team by a narrow margin of 1-0 which was enough to seal the final victory. This all important goal was scored by Captain Andrew Ogundele who was also voted the MVP by your circle counsellors. For the soccer B team, Bevan Fernandes, was voted the MVP.
Congrats to your sponsored circle on winning two trophies for this inaugural tournament and your putting Mississauga & your council 12067 on the map once again.
