As usual and very punctual Bro. Avelino was at the Church car park early, serving coffee and donuts to the Knights and Squires. It was wonderful to see a large number our Squires. An Appreciation Night for our Chaplain, Msgr. T. D'Souza was held at the Mad Hatters on Friday Oct 21, 2005. Our GK Bro. Marcel Lemmen is seen presenting a gift to our Chaplain during the function. A lively discussion around the table covered topics ranging from Internet security to inactive Knights. Our situation can be summed up by three "P's"- 'P'athetic - present situation.
- 'P'rolific - next step.
- 'P'ossible - make the impossible, possible.
Below is an extract from KOC Supreme website regarding the Duties of a Sponsor. This being our membership drive month please take time to reflect on your responsibilites as a sponsor. Bro. George Lim (Our Membership Director) is appealing for all Knights to help him by your presence at all the Masses this weekend to get the message out to potential new members.
Proposing a new member is a commendable achievement and one to be proud of. However, as a proposer, turning over a completed Membership Document (#100) is not the end of the job. You must also take the responsibility to see that your recruit becomes fully accepted by his fellow council members and stays involved in council activities. There are several steps you can take to ensure this.
- Explain to him that the council's Admission Committee will examine his qualifications for membership and accompany him to the Admission Committee meeting. Introduce him to the members present.
- After he has been accepted, escort him to his First Degree and remain with him throughout the event. Following the exemplification, introduce him to his fellow council members.
- Take the newly initiated member and his family "under your wing". See that he learns council procedures, such as meeting times, committee assignments, etc. Introduce him and his family at council events. Encourage him to involve his family in council-sponsored activities.
- Accompany your recruit to his Second Degree and Third Degree exemplifications and stay with him throughout the day.
- Contact him before each council meeting and bring him to the meeting if necessary. If the new member becomes inactivate for some reason, try to find out why. Call and ask to visit with him. Explain your concern about his absence and offer support or assistance.
- Encourage him to earn "Shining Armor" status within the council.
If the Knight becomes inactive, his proposer should work with the retention committee to find out the reasons for his lapsed interest and try to converse his membership.

Knight for Hope
4th of November at Mississauga’s Living Arts Centre. Credit Valley Council 8661 of the Knights of Columbus is organizing a major fundraiser for the Carlo Fidani Peel Regional Cancer Centre at the Credit Valley Hospital.
A Knight for Hope musical extravaganza will be held at the Living Arts Centre in Mississauga on Friday, November 4, 2005. The headline act for the evening is Michael Burgess, a renowned Canadian tenor who has starred in major musicals including Les Mis. Also featured are entertainers Debi Sander Walker and Michael Ciufo. You may recall that Michael Ciufo entertained us at our first Clergy Appreciation Night and it is great to see how far he has come in the intervening years.
Tickets are $50 per person and may be purchased through our council or over the internet from the Living Arts Centre Box Office.

8 th. Anniversary Dance

An appreciation from Bro. Avelino Fernandes.
Our KOC 8th Anniversary Dance which was held in Fr. Terence D'Souza Hall on October 8, 2005 was a great success. Heartfelt appreciation goes out to the committee overseeing the dance and for all their hard work and enthusiasm. A special thanks also go out to the Brothers and their spouses who attended. It is a blessing to see so many brothers participate in our Knights events and make it a success.
